Trail Report: Three Lakes – Brule River
Reported By: Three Lakes – Brule River Trails
Date of Report: 02/09/2012
Trail Conditions: Fair
Snow Cover: 11″ on the official Three Lakes gauge
Area Report: Maybe a dusting of snow for Thursday night, colder Friday and Saturday, and a minor warm up for Sunday and beyond. Still no real snow events in the near term forecast. Sorry, but not much new to report. Cooler temps should help to keep what we have. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a decent snow and it shows. Groomers have recycled existing snow about as much as possible. A mixed bag of conditions are out there. Trails vary from some poor to some still good. Some snirt and dirt showing in town and on the heavily traveled areas. Some real nice conditions out in the boonies. As always, TR11 (Upper and Lower Kimball) seem to hang in there the longest. Icy turns everywhere. North / South roaded trails have taken a sun beating. Lakes are in great shape and offer an opportunity to rack up lots of easy miles. We’re still grooming every night, but they can only do so much with so little. Still rideable if you don’t get your hopes too high. Have fun and be safe!
** As always, when lake riding, stay close to the orange barrels to be sure you are riding the safest ice possible. **
***** There are 2 trail closures in our area this year. *****
1) Corridor 13 North from Rice Lake Rd to Eagle River is closed. The detour is TL4 West to Sugar Camp Trails, 17 North to 70, and 70 East to Eagle River. The closed section is clearly marked on the trail and on the new 2011/2012 map.
2) TL7 Between Maple Lake and Bonnie’s Lakeside is closed. The detour from Maple Lake is TL5 Northwest to TL11, TL11 East to Pine Isle / Medicine Lake, TL11 to TL9 South, TL9 to Spirit Lake / Bonnie’s Lakeside. Or easier yet, follow the orange detour signs. The closure is clearly marked on the trail, but due to timing reasons, is NOT shown on the 2011/2012 map.
