Trail Report: Price County – Park Falls, Phillips & Prentice
Reported By: Price County Tourism Department
Date of Report: 12/30/2014
Trail Conditions: Fair
Snow Cover: 6-10 inches
Area Report: Trails are open and vary from good to poor early-season condition. Trails in northern Price County that are maintained by the Fifield Sno-Drovers and the Park Falls Sno-Gypsies, which includes the Tuscobia State Trail, are groomed and in good condition. The swamps are not groomed. Many swamps are full of water and some creeks are still flowing over the trails. Riding the trails will assist club members in packing them down so that they will freeze. Ride with caution. Recently snowmobiles and ATVs have broken through lake ice on the Phillips Chain and Soo Lake. STAY OFF area lakes until conditions improve. The good news is that daytime temperatures will remain below freezing/32° F and nighttime temperatures are forecasted to be below 0° for several nights. This will help to freeze the swamps and lakes. Some central and southern Price County trails have been packed with the groomers but major grooming will be delayed in those areas until the swamps freeze.

On January 1-3, 2015, there will be a special event on the Tuscobia State Trail from Park Falls to Rice Lake (entire length). This event will bring approximately 150 bicyclers, skiers, runners and support staff to the trail at all times of the day and overnight. Snowmobile and ATV/UTV riders should be aware that they will encounter other users on the trail and should SLOW DOWN. Questions can be directed to 715-762-1343.
