Trail Report For: Sayner – 12/30/2014

Reported By: George – Sayner/Star Lake Barnstormers

Trail Report: Sayner

Date of Report: 12/30/2014

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 5″ Average – On The Trail

Area Report: Our trails right now are good on average. The colder temps were certainly a welcome arrival. Before the warm temps arrived, areas where traffic becomes concentrated got ground down to mud – very quickly. Now with the colder temps the trails will all hold up much better. We do expect heavy traffic all this week. As corners see more traffic, the snow will probably get blown off leaving ice. Be ready!

Plum and Star Lakes are both marked. We, as always, advise extreme caution when crossing. Stay near the markers. If you can avoid it – DO NOT stop and converse on the lake. Wait for a land trail where it is wide enough to allow other traffic to pass. There have been reports of slush on the lakes, however these cold temps should have taken care of that by now. As we get more snow though and/or cracks develop – water comes up on top of the ice and new slush holes can develop quickly. If you encounter slush, do not panic – stay on the throttle. Always be prepared!

There are on going logging operations happening between the following intersection numbers; 205 & 353 on trail 6/10/11 and on 11/51 between 344 & 352. Out in that area, there are also logging trucks using Vandercook Rd, which is a Cross Country Cruisers trail. Trucks are hauling out from a lot of areas – so PLEASE be ready at all times to get out of their way! Get off to the side if you can or turn around as quickly as you can. These loggers are not out there to ruin your snowmobiling experience. They are out there trying to make a living. While they do plow snow off the trail, we ARE working with them the best we can, to leave as much snow on the trail as they can! There ARE LOGGING AHEAD SIGNS. Pay attention – heed their warning – SLOW DOWN!!!

As always, PLEASE RIDE SAFE!!! Expect the unexpected. Respect especially the groomers and also fellow riders. You are not the only one on the trail, so always expect traffic to be coming at you around every corner. Slow down and ride another day!!!

The Sayner/Star Lake Barnstormers hope you all have a great and SAFE New Years!

News & Events: Dates and times for our 2015 fund raisers are coming soon.

We have 15 groomer drivers this year, as usual, led by trail boss Dennis Horan. All of our drivers do an awesome job. Please give them a thank you if you see one of them somewhere!
