Trail Conditions: Early Season
Snow Cover: 6-12 inches
Area Report: Trail report for Tuesday, January 13
Bayfield County Snowmobile trails are officially open; however, snow conditions vary between poor and good. Grooming operations are limited until we receive more snow.
Trails #1 and #31 going into Bayfield are temporarily closed due to an unsafe water crossing, but may be open by the weekend. Signs have been posted at the intersection of Trail #1 and #31 (east of Echo Valley), Compton Road and Weidinger Road. Riders should obey all signs and use road routes when necessary.
Trail #63 is closed from County Highway E in Mason, south to Bibon Road. Trail closed signs are posted. Riders should obey all signs and follow signed trails and road routes when necessary. County Highway E is NOT a signed road route and access to the Town of Mason from the west is limited.
Trail #1 is open to Cornucopia, but a portion is closed from Echo Valley Road to Henkens Road. Riders should follow re-route signs and use Echo Valley, Echo Valley Gravel Pit, and Henkens Roads as connection routes.
There will be drilling/heavy equipment operations south of Gravel Pit Road on Trail #31 until further notice.
There’s logging activity on Trail #1 north of Mountain Road, on Trail #31 a few miles south of Mulligan Creek Road and near the Sawyer County line on Trail #31 for the remainder of the winter.
Riders should use extra caution while traveling in these areas.
In the southern part of the county, groomers report that all of the trails in their region have been groomed and are ready for riding. Trails are in fair to good condition. Trail 63 south of Cable is currently closed. Randysek Road has been marked as the temporary route into town.
Please stay on the designated trails and routes. Changes to the trail system are marked with signage on the trails, so when in doubt, follow the signs.
The 2015-16 trail maps are available. Please contact the Bayfield County Tourism Office at 715-373-6125 to get yourself a copy today.
