Trail Report: Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor
Reported By: Tammi the Trail Goddess at Dan’s Recreation
Date of Report: 01/13/2015
Trail Conditions: Very Good
Snow Cover: 23″ – 35″
Area Report: The sun is shining!!! It is only 2 below but the sun is out!! I haven’t seen the sun for so long that I wasn’t sure what that bright thing in the sky was! And it isn’t snowing. I should probably mark this day on the calendar because it might be May before this happens again up here in the wintry Copper Country. The trails are in great shape and the groomers are out there grooming from the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, south to Twin Lakes. The temps are going up for the weekend and some snow is also forecasted, but only a few inches here and there, not a few feet!! The next week looks like fantastic riding up here. If you don’t have a trip planned yet, get your pals together and get up here!! Trail 122 from Lake Linden to Gay is now closed due to logging. You can still get into Gay on either Trail 124 from Trail 3 or Trail 133 from Lac LaBelle. The mat is not down under the bridge yet, but will be soon. It is still safe to cross under the bridge. Please do not take the lake. If you are going to be up in the area over the weekend, please keep in mind that the bridge will be closed to all traffic on Saturday, January 17, from 9 pm until Sunday, January 18 at 7 am. This closure is for work to be done on the bridge. Plan accordingly.
Ride safe- use your head-don’t drink and drive-respect others and private property!!
See you on the trails!!!
