Reported By: George – Sayner/Star Lake Barnstormers
Trail Report: Sayner
Date of Report: 01/10/2015
Trail Conditions: Good
Snow Cover: 5″ Average – On The Trail
Area Report: ..
Our trails right now are good on average. This past Thursday, we received about 2 to 3 inches of fresh white platinum. This really helped cover some areas where the snow cover was really thin. There is still an occasional spot here and there, where it is still thin. Please continue to watch out for icy corners. Even with the snow we received and snow the groomers pull back in; it won’t take much traffic to blow the corners back out making them very icy. We have sections of trail that are excellent. Most sections are good on average. As we get more snow, the poor & fair areas become less and less.
We always advise caution on all lake crossings. Stay on the marked path and please be prepared for anything. Ice heaves and slush pockets can develop quickly. You could cross in the morning with everything fine and be greeted on your return trip at night to a big bump(s) or a deep slush pocket(s).
There are ongoing logging operations between the following intersection numbers; 205 & 353 on trail 6/10/11 and on 11/51 between 344 & 352. Out in that area, there are also logging trucks using Vandercook Rd, which is a Cross Country Cruisers trail. Trucks are hauling out from a lot of areas – so PLEASE be ready at all times to get out of their way! Get off to the side if you can or turn around as quickly as you can. These loggers are not out there to ruin your snowmobiling experience. They are out there trying to make a living. While they do plow snow off the trail, we ARE working with them the best we can, to leave as much snow on the trail as they can! There ARE LOGGING AHEAD SIGNS. Pay attention – heed their warning – SLOW DOWN!!! If you encounter a truck being loaded or a logging machine on the trail; DO NOT EVER assume an operator of a logging machine sees you. Always wait until the operator signals you to pass or wait until they have moved off the trail.
As always, PLEASE RIDE SAFE!!! Expect the unexpected. Respect especially the groomers and also other riders. You are not the only one on the trail, so always expect traffic to be coming at you around every corner. Slow down and ride another day!!!
We have 15 groomer drivers this year, as usual, led by trail boss Dennis Horan. All of our drivers do an awesome job. Please give them a thank you if you see one of them somewhere!
