Trail Report: Sayner
Date of Report: 01/30/2015
Trail Conditions: Fair
Snow Cover: 4″ Average – On The Trail
Area Report: .
We did get about 1 1/2 inches of fresh snow overnight. Not enough to get real excited about but anything is a welcome addition!!! Many areas further away from town in the woods, where the trail is less traveled, are still good to excellent. Sections close to town are worn & snirty. The rest is a mixed bag in-between. Most corners are icy. I have to say that the average is fair, however we can only try to describe to you what is out there. Opinions will vary as to if it is good, fair, or poor. One group will be happy while the next is disappointed. Temps are predicted to be cold for at least the next week. That will at least hold what we have. All the clubs continue to do the best they can with the cards Ma Nature has handed us!!!
As far as our lakes go, as long as you stick to the marked crossings, you will be fine. However, as always, use extreme caution. Slushy spots or ice heaves could develop at any time, without warning.
Logging continues, as it probably will all winter, between the following intersection numbers; 205 & 353 on trail 6/10/11 and on 11/51 between 344 & 352. Out in that area, there are also logging trucks using Vandercook Rd, which is a Cross Country Cruisers trail. The speed limit on Vandercook has been reduced to 35mph. Trucks are hauling out from a lot of areas – so PLEASE be ready at all times to get out of their way! Get off to the side if you can or turn around as quickly as you can. These loggers are not out there to ruin your snowmobiling experience. They are out there trying to make a living. There ARE LOGGING AHEAD SIGNS. Pay attention – heed their warning – SLOW DOWN!!! If you encounter a truck being loaded or a logging machine on the trail; DO NOT assume an operator of the machine or driver of the truck sees you. Always wait until the operator/driver signals you to pass or wait until they have moved off to the side.
We have 15 groomer drivers this year, as usual, led by trail boss Dennis Horan. All of our drivers do an awesome job. Please give them a thank you if you see one of them somewhere!
As always, PLEASE RIDE SAFE!!! Expect the unexpected. Respect especially the groomers and also other riders. You are not the only one on the trail, so always expect traffic to be coming at you around every corner. Slow down and ride another day!!! Riding Stupid Takes a Toll! Riding Smart Should Be Your Goal!!!
