Trail Report: Bayfield

Date of Report: 02/02/2015

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10″-14″

Area Report: Area Report: The groomed trails are holding up well inspite of no fresh snow lately. Sled traffic has been light so that helps. The trails we rode this weekend were smooth, hard and fast. They had a base of up to 5″. Tr31, TR51 and TR1 west of Bayfield still have some thin spots. The reroute on TR1 is plowed and had very little loose snow. We did not ride TR31 between Valhalla and Iron River and TR13 east to Washburn nor any in the Cornie/Herbster/Port Wing areas. Access in./out of Bayfield and Red Cliff is difficult due to the reroute of TR1..

The forest roads are hard but have a deep base. The corners on the more traveled FR’s are bumpy but overall the conditions are good. Many FR’s in Clover Township (FR258/439/433/7633/Seven Mile, etc) plus a mile of TR41north to TR19, were plowed as the Township was testing some new equipment. Basically, they had no concern for the many riders who use those FR’s other than TR40 and many riders are upset with their actions. Many riders use the FR’s to avoid the 1/2 mile of plowed TR40 to access the Old Baldy area.

No new snow in the forecast until later on in the week. The area received up a 1″ of LES Sunday.
