Reported By: hollyt

Date of Report: 03/10/2015

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: Crystalized base going fast in town – base in the woods

Area Report:

Trails Are Still Open But We Are Near The End Of The Season

Trail Boss Tom discontinued grooming Sunday night & it looks like the season is approaching the end.  In just a week the temps have gone from high of 20’s & lows of below zero to 50’s during the day & 20’s at night.  There is still plenty of snow here in Vilas County but the trails are going fast.  Many areas the base is gone or going.  In town the grade area by Friendship House & Holiday South is still there but crystalizing.  Many other parts are gone all together.  East of town on rail 10E the south side of the one way has base in most areas.  On the north side of the one way heading back into town many areas are burning through.  This goes for Trail 7 heading west along Hwy 70W. So yep it is grim for any riding.  Have to believe there is riding in the woods.  Getting to it will be a challenge.

Here is what National Weather Service is reporting as of this morning:

  • Tuesday High 56 Low 24
  • Wednesday High 45 Low 21
  • Thursday High 50 Low 28
  • Friday High 53 Low 29

Logging continues on Trail 10W/13N. The section starts where trail is on Croker Rd to where the trail turns right on the way to the Wisconsin River Bridge on the west side.  Coming from the east it is after you cross the Wisconsin River Bridge. It will be marked but there will be logging equipment in there. Logging will also begin shortly on trail section along Hwy G west of Eagle River around Pickerel Lake Road.

Eagle Lake Trail & Catfish Lake Loop are marked & OPEN.  Stay by the barrels.  There is surface slush on both lakes.  If you are not an experienced rider do not ride.

All Sno-Eagles Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday Rides are done for the season.  Join us next season.

Be a great year.  I am done riding for this season baring a miracle.
