Trail Report: Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor
Reported By: Tammi the Trail Goddess at Dan’s Recreation
Date of Report: 03/11/2015
Trail Conditions: Good
Snow Cover: 20″-30″
Area Report: All trails are still open and being groomed when temps allow. Mostly evening and night so they can set up. We have lost a lot of snow on the roads and parking lots in the last 2 days. Everything was solid ice this morning with my van covered in frost. Trails are hard and icy. The sun is out right now and temp is 35. There is a cooler breeze. There is still plenty of snow on the trails to ride, going through the towns its getting more like snirt (snow and dirt). But once you are in the outlying areas, the snow is good. As long as you aren’t expecting perfect trails, you will have a good time riding. I am thinking the trails should hold up through the weekend , but beyond that we will have to wait and see.
Remember: don’t drink and ride, respect private property and others on the trail, stay off the water–it is definitely not safe after the weather we have been having, and slow down and enjoy the views!
