Trail Report: Cable
Reported By: Cable Chamber of Commerce
Date of Report: 12/28/2015
Trail Conditions: Fair
Snow Cover: 8-12″
Area Report: The Cable Area has received just over 12″ of new snow since Christmas Eve, and Winter Storm Goliath is forecasted to bring up to another 8″ of snow tonight.
Last week’s storms brought down several trees, but our great groomers have been out clearing our trails. Trails are ALL open and the groomers are out with their lightest equipment rolling the entire system.
Our swamps are frozen enough for sleds to cross, but not frozen enough to support the weight of the heavy grooming equipment, so grooming swamps with the drag is not possible at this time.
Also, we do not advise crossing over any area lakes as the ice is still not thick enough – there are reports of a few sleds going through the ice yesterday in Sawyer County just to our South. Our stick trails are the surest way to know if the ice is thick enough to cross – if the stick trail is not up, please stay off the lake.
Rest assured, you can ride about 90% of our trail system without crossing lakes. Our trail and ice conditions will likely be improving, so be sure to check for updated reports.
