Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 13 inches

Area Report: Ely Area Lakes: All Ely area lakes have been staked. There is quite a bit of slush on White Iron and Birch Lakes, and some on Fall Lake. It is recommended that snowmobilers stay on the staked trails to avoid major problems with slush.

The Taconite Trail: Trail Condition: poor to fair Trail groomed: yes Trail base: 2-4 inches taconite trail is impassable 5.5 miles east of hwy 53 towards Ely due to flooding and open water. A re-route is not in place but is currently being worked on. The entire Taconite Trail is groomed except for the closed section mentioned above.

The Arrowhead Trail: Trail condition: poor Trail groomed: no Trail base: 2-3 inches The intent is to groom the majority of the Arrowhead Trail over the next few days with the exception of portions with unfrozen wetlands and low snow levels. The trails are in poor to fair condition due to the low snow levels and unfrozen wetland areas.

The Putnam-Fishing Lakes Trail: Trail condition: poor Trail groomed: no Trail base: 1-2 inches Trails are packed and cleared. Crews are waiting for ice to build in wetland areas and for more snow for full grooming attempts. Please use extreme caution and travel at your own risk.

The Lake Vermilion State Park and Soudan Underground Mine State Park: Trail condition: poor Trail groomed: no Trail base: 1-2 inches Trails are packed and cleared. Crews are waiting for ice to build in wetland areas and for more snow for full grooming attempts. Please use extreme caution and travel at your own risk.

The Taconite Spur Trails and Stony Spur Trails: White Iron to Birch and Birch to the Stony Spur have been cleared and packed. The local trails have been cleared and groomed.

The Tomahawk Trail & Local Trails: From Ely the trail is cleared but not groomed for approximately 10 miles. There is three more miles of uncleared trial to the Kawishiwi River bridge. It has been packed but needs to be cleared. From the bridge to Spruce road it has been cleared and packed. From Nickel Lake to Mattila Shelter it has been cleared and packed. Not groomed. From Mattila shelter to the Knotted Pine it has been cleared and groomed. Ya! From the Knotted Pine to the General Grade road, approximately 12 miles, it has been cut open but not cleared. We are working on clearing it today, Wednesday. From the General Grade to the North Shore Trail it has been cleared and groomed, several times.
