Area Report: Ely Area Trail Conditions – Wednesday, January 26, 2016

Ely Area Lakes: All Ely area lakes have been staked. It is recommended that snowmobilers stay on the staked trails to avoid issues with slush.

Taconite Trail: Trail Condition: fair Trail groomed: yes Trail base: 2-3 inches The entire Taconite Trail is groomed and in fair condition. Use caution near the Big Aspen portion of the tail due to ice flows. Some portions of the trail do have exposed rocks and brush.

Arrowhead Trail: Trail condition: fair Trail groomed: yes Trail base: 2-3 inches Groomers are anticipating having the Arrowhead Trail groomed by the end of the week. There are some section of the trail with rough terrain and exposed rocks. Please use caution while traveling on the trail.

Putnam-Fishing Lakes Trail: Trail condition: poor Trail groomed: no Trail base: 1 inch The entire trail should be groomed by the end of the week.

Lake Vermilion State Park and Soudan Underground Mine State Park: Trail condition: good Trail groomed: no Trail base: 1-2 inches Trails are packed and groomed.

Taconite Spur Trails and Stony Spur Trails: Monday the 25th the Stony Spur and the Taconite Spur towards Ely was groomed. Tuesday the 26th Taconite Spur to Ridge was groomed. Trail reports show the trail in fair to good condition.

Tomahawk Trail & Local Trails: Trail not groomed from Ely to Knotted Pine and there is still about two miles of trail to finish clearing along this route. Knotted Pine to Trestle Inn is groomed.
