Reported By: Tammi the Trail Goddess at Dan’s Recreation
Date of Report: 01/26/2016
Trail Conditions: Very Good
Snow Cover: 2 to 3 feet
Area Report: Trail conditions here in the Keweenaw are great! Over the weekend, things got rough in spots due to the thousands of riders in the area, but things are always a little slower during the week. About 4 inches of snow fell overnight, giving a nice boost to the already snow covered trails. Temps are going to be warmer this week and weekend, but snow is in the forecast for a few of the days. Trails look to busy again this weekend, come up during the week if you can, otherwise ride safe.
There is some logging off of Trail 120, which is the south Freda trail, so please stay on the trail.
The Portage Lake Lift Bridge will be having some intermittent closings this week through Friday. Between the hours of 7-11 pm the closures will be 15 minutes and from 11pm – 4 am they may be up to 30 minutes. The lower part of the bridge where snowmobiles cross will be closed at these times too, as the bridge will be raised and lowered.
There were several deaths in the UP this weekend due to speed so please slow it down. This isn’t a race. Ride responsibly, respect other riders and private property, stay on the marked trails, save the drinking for when you are done riding, and stay off the water-it is not safe!!
See you on the trails!
