Trail Report: Oconto County

Reported By: Oconto County Tourism

Date of Report: 01/08/2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 1-4

Area Report: Townsend (Red Arrow Snowmobile Trails) – Trails took a beating this week. Not much snow left on the trails for the groomers to work with. We won’t be going out again until we get more snow. You can continue to ride, but be on the lookout for dirt on the Nicolet grade and rocks popping up on all the trails.

Lakewood – Paul Bunyan Riders – The trails took a beating this weekend and yesterdays sun took its toll on the grade. There is nothing left to groom and the wet areas are not freezing up. The temps toward the end of the week are in the thirties. Wish we had better news to report. Until we get a major snowfall we will halt grooming operations.

Bagley & Brazeau Trails – The trails are all open but we are not grooming yet.
The trail from Kelly Lake to Suring will remain closed until standing corn in the fields is harvested. Trails will not be groomed at this time as in many areas the ground is too soft for the weight of the groomer. Stay off of all lakes as they are not safe. One week ago Kelly Lake, Lee Lake and White Potato Lake where wide open, no ice. Ride with caution and be mindful of open water and bare spots. If you can ride and pack the trails this will help freeze them up.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – The Chute Pond Snowmobile Club trails are open, but because of lack of snow, we are not grooming at this time. Heavy traffic and no trail base have downgraded our overall trail condition to “poor early season”. The Nicolet State Trail is very poor, with mostly gravel in many places. Wooded trails vary in condition, from poor to fair. Please note that there is very little ice on all area lakes- some still have open water. Stay safe- stay off the lakes.

Oconto Falls – Sno Jokers – Trails are CLOSED.

Lena – Snow Drifters – Trails are CLOSED.

Chase Sno- Chasers Snowmobile Club – Trails are CLOSED.
