Trail Report: Oconto County

Reported By: Oconto County Tourism

Date of Report: 01/11/2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 1-4

Area Report: Townsend (Red Arrow Trails) – We received about an 1 1/2″ of heavy wet snow last night in the greater Townsend Area (1/8/2016). Not enough to groom but a step in the right direction. If you go out riding please don’t follow the sled in front of you, try to spread out and pack the snow down so it will freeze down and create a solid base. Riding is out there but be very careful of rocks, ruts, branches and water holes. It’s not great riding but it’s riding. We will start grooming again when we receive enough snow to do so. Until then do the best you can and have fun, but be safe.

Lakewood (Paul Bunyan Trails) – Received about 2 inches of snow Thursday night, it made everything white but not enough to groom.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – The Chute Pond Snowmobile Club trails are open, but because of lack of snow, we are not grooming at this time. Heavy traffic and no trail base have downgraded our overall trail condition to “poor early season”. The Nicolet State Trail is very poor, with mostly gravel in many places. Wooded trails vary in condition, from poor to fair.

The latest storm over the past few days brought us very little snow and mostly rain. The good news is that the deep freeze coming tonight should freeze the sloppy mess into a nice hard trail base. Please note that there is marginal ice on all area lakes- some still have open water and/or very thin spots. Stay safe- stay off the lakes.

Oconto Falls (Sno Jokers Trails) – Trails are CLOSED.

Lena (Snow Drifters Trails) – Trails are CLOSED.

Chase – (Sno-Chasers Trails) – Trails are CLOSED.
