Trail Report For: Sayner – 01/09/2016

Reported By: Sayner/Star Lake Barnstormers

Trail Report: Sayner

Date of Report: 01/09/2016

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 1 to 2″ avg – remaining ON THE TRAIL.

Area Report: –
While there is good news on the horizon for the lakes, please continue to STAY OFF until they are marked for crossing. The good news is that starting tonight – the temps are supposed to drop to 0 to 5 below. Nighttime temps are supposed to be at 0 or below for about the next 6 nights or more.

The bad news is the last two days that were supposed to bring us up to 6 inches – only brought us 1 1/2 inches (+/-). This is good news for the lakes. Without heavy snow on them they will freeze up better/quicker.

There are sections of trail that are not too bad. But, for the most part, they are rough. Pretty much whatever the trail bed was like is what you are now riding on. There are some sections with terrible ruts that are downright dangerous, such as Trail 51 around and between intersection numbers 361 & 352. There are occasional chuck holes that even if they did get partially filled – they got pounded back out by traffic. Please ride with caution.

We did get out yesterday and panned our trails. That will help tremendously in most areas to help form a base.

Please do not lose all hope for this season. We have had other years where in January there was not much for riding. Then things improved tremendously late in the month and we had a great February and March. Keep your fingers crossed.

With conditions not being the best, please slow down and ride another day!!!

VERY IMPORTANT: We do have logging going on up by Star Lake. Anywhere you encounter a logging operation – DO NOT CONFRONT THE LOGGERS!!! There was already an incident where a couple riders confronted a logger and it had to get smoothed over. The loggers are not out there trying to piss off snowmobilers. They are out there trying to make a living. They have the right to shut snowmobile trails down if they so choose. If snowmobilers piss them off enough – thats exactly what they will do – shut the trail down until they are done logging. So PLEASE – be patient, give the loggers room, get the heck out of their way, and give them the utmost courtesy possible.
