Trail Report: Sayner

Date of Report: 01/23/2016

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 3 inches (+/-) on the trail

Area Report: –
I wish I could be reporting a decent snowfall, but I can’t. All we have received have really been nothing more than major dustings. I have talked to many riders in the St Germain/Sayner area, however, and none have said the trails are terrible. They have all said – yes – there are spots that are not very good, but overall they are all better than what they expected considering the lack of snow.

As I said in the last report, it comes down to opinions of what conditions are. One rider will be happy and the next think why did I unload the trailer. What we have right now is not the best for the longevity of carbides and ice picks. If you need perfect pristine conditions everywhere you ride – you won’t be happy. What riders have reported are that it is more than tolerable around Sayner and if you go north – it gets better. The change, within or own system, from our southern trails to our northern trails is big.

I keep praying for snow and keep doing the snow dances. I do this for you – the snowmobiler – and for our businesses that need you here.

The low snow conditions leave our trails hard and also icy. So lets be careful out there. Most lakes are marked. When you cross – stay by the markers.

VERY IMPORTANT: We do have logging going on up near or in Star Lake. ANYWHERE you encounter a logging operation – DO NOT CONFRONT THE LOGGERS!!! There was already an incident where a couple riders confronted a logger and it had to get smoothed over. The loggers are not out there trying to make life difficult for or inconvenience snowmobilers. They are out there trying to make a living. Due to a change in the law, they now have the right to shut snowmobile trails down, to complete their logging, if they so choose. If snowmobilers bother them too much – thats exactly what they will do – shut the trail down until they are done logging. If it takes them all the way to and/or past March – goodbye to that trail for the season. So PLEASE – be patient, give the loggers room, get the heck out of their way, and give them the utmost courtesy possible.

Please Ride Safe and Stay On The Trails! Ride safe so you can ride another day!
