Area Report: Washburn County has opened limited sections of snowmobile trail for winter riding. Snow conditions are variable across the county and not all wet areas are frozen. Trail conditions are variable and riders are urged to ride with caution as they may encounter wet areas. We do not recommend travel across lakes.
The following trails are open for riding:
Wild River Trail (35)
Shell Lake Grade from Spooner to Shell Lake (39/239). Trail closed south of Shell Lake due to unfrozen conditions.
Trail 140 from Wild River Trail to the west
Trail 39 from Trego north to Trail 8
Trail 8 east from Wild River Trail to trail 39 (8 east of trail 39 closed due to unfrozen conditions)
Trails 7, 7A, 7B, 8 west, 140 east, 4, 6, 25 and 34 will remain closed until conditions improve.
Northern portions of the county have more snow. The southeast area of the county has minimal snow and trails remain closed. Additional trail sections will be opened as snowmobile trail conditions improve.
The clubs are out working the trails, in an effort to freeze down other trail segments. Swamps and low areas are excessively wet, due to the unusual weather of the last month. While any additional new snow is welcome, freeze down of the trail system is the current greatest challenge. Conditions will be reported daily, so be sure to check back for updates! Thanks for your patience. Think snow!
