Trail Report For: Superior – Douglas County – 01/20/2016

Trail Report: Superior – Douglas County

Reported By: Superior-Douglas County Visitors Bureau

Date of Report: 01/20/2016

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4-8 inches

Area Report: Douglas County Recreational Trails Update: January 20, 2016
As is typical for this time of year, certain trail segments can be opened and others are not ready yet due to wetland crossings and/or have restrictions due to private land easements. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to use their property… please review the information below carefully before trail riding and confirm that you are using open trails. Please note that on certain trails only segments of that trail may be open at this time. We anticipate frequent updates as the clubs report in with trails they have checked. In all areas where the winter recreational trails are closed the clubs are actively working on the getting the trails open. Ice conditions – Wisconsin DNR website provides general and safety information about ice conditions: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/outdoorrecreation/activities/icesafety.html

BRR Trails are shaping up nicely except for the ungroomed portion of Trail 4 west of Pikes Peak Road to the warming shelter. The Sunday evening Groomer Operator on Trail 27 said the trail rated an 8 out of 10. That is common with most areas of our trails.
Snow levels are a little skimpy in the NW portion of our area.
All Brule River Riders trails were groomed Sunday or Monday with four exceptions.
Trail 4: Trail 4 was groomed west of Hawthorne to the Okerson – Pikes Peak Road last week. We had to go around a small unfrozen portion south of the Bennett Road. We are going to attempt grooming to the warming shelter on Tuesday. At present Trail 4 dead ends at the warming shelter as Trails 41 and 4/41to/from there are not open (trail 9 is open from the warming shack to Moose Junction only).
Trail 35 (Wild Rivers Trail): North of Mikrot Road. The Groomer operator felt with the low snow level it was best to leave it alone. It is ok to ride with a sled.
Trail 235: Portions of the trail were groomed with a small groomer last week.
Trail 635: Will probably be groomed next week but is in decent shape.
Much of our area received several small snowfalls last week.
ATV riders are advised to use caution in any wetland area and areas with moving water.
In Bennett use the Bennett Road route around a soft spot rather than # 4 across the swamp to Trail 35 (Wild Rivers Trail).

NW Quadrant
Grooming has been temporarily suspended until we receive additional snow.
