Trail Report: Bayfield
Reported By: Gary Dalzell, Woodside Cottages
Date of Report: 02/29/2016
Trail Conditions: Good
Snow Cover: 14-20″
Area Report: The trails in the Bayfield/Valhalla area were superb Thursday going into the weekend. The warm weather Saturday took a toll on trails south from Valhalla to Iron River. Trails nor of TR40 held up well and well and will be in very good condition after the groomer goes over them. The area got 3-4″ of good quality snow Sunday into today.
Exceptions are TR1 west of Bayfield and TR1 south of Cornie to just north of TR41 junction and TR1 into Herbster. We did not ride TR31N into Red Cliff but it was groomed up to TR1/31. I am not sure of the condition of either trail beyond that.
The fresh snow really helped the Forest Roads which we rode most of the day Sunday. Wednesday through Saturday we rode mostly groomed trails with our cottages guests.
The should be another very good week of riding west of Bayfield and Valhalla. Beyond this weekend, the long range forecast does not look very good with warm temps and rain.
I am convinced that the Bayfield/Valhalla area offers the best riding conditions anywhere in Wisconsin and Western UP.
