Trail Report: Bayfield County

Reported By: Sue

Date of Report: 02/05/2016

Trail Conditions: Very Good

Snow Cover: 6-24 inches

Area Report: In the Barnes area, after a fresh new falling of snow, all of the trails are in excellent riding condition. All trails were or will be groomed including, #31N which was groomed along with trail brushing on Tuesday, #7 and #17 were groomed Tuesday evening, #17 and #18 were groomed Wednesday. #31S will be groomed Friday, use caution as grooming equipment will be on the trail. A nice cool down in the night temperatures will help to maintain the trails after the thaw last weekend. Nice to see the new snow fall, makes for great trails and riding.

In the Drummond area We now have 6” to 8” of new snow coverage so all trails are snow covered, groomed and in good condition. The groomer is out today panning the last of our trails before the weekend. This includes #63 to Lake Owen, #63 to Grand View, #7 to Barnes, #4 to Sanborn and #6 towards Delta.

In the Cable/Namekagon area Winter Storm Kayla delivered 10″+ of new snow in the Cable Area overnight. Our trails were in good shape with a solid base prior to the new snowfall, but fresh snow is always welcome. We are anticipating picking up new snowfall every day from Thursday through next Monday as well. Riders in the Cable Area can expect the best riding conditions of the winter season so far! Trail 90 is closed due to logging in the area, a suggested reroute would be to take FR191 (Old Grade Rd) to trail 80.

In Central Bayfield County all is good in Iron River/Tri County Corridor except haven’t been up trail 31 to 63. We will cover that late Thursday night/early Friday morning (2/4-2/5/16) due to high traffic on that trail. The tri county corridor was groomed Thursday afternoon (2/4/16).

In the north – On the South Shore: although the new snow varies in depth in areas near Lake Superior, there seems to be enough to put the trails into the best shape we’ve seen this season. The portion of trail #1 from Orienta Falls Road west of Port Wing to the top of the hill at Touve Road east of Port Wing is in pretty good condition and will be groomed again on Friday, 2/5/16. Trail #1 from Herbster to Corny and to Mountain Rd. trail #41 to #40 over to #31 and to 7 mile Rd was groomed Thursday (2/4/16). Additionally, Trail #1 between Highway 13 and Lenawee Road is open but will be plowed for the rest of the season. There are a couple new areas being logged around Cornucopia, one where Trail #1 crosses Klemik Rd. and the other also near Trail #1 off Mountain Rd.

In the Bayfield area, Trail #1 is open and groomed to Legendary Water Resort & Casino.

Washburn/Valhalla area: The Valhellers Club is hosting a Poker Run so we are assuming the trails are in good shape; they must have been too busy getting ready for the event to send us a trail condition update ; )

Just a reminder, please stay on the trail so we don’t have easements taken away. Enjoy and ride safely!
