New horse in the stable - I couldn't pull a brand new custom mountain sled with an old Jeep. So today I took advantage of the $3500 Cash for Clunkers, our Toyota employee discount and an additional incentive of $1200 for left-over 09' and turned the Grand Cherokee in.

I won't be picking the new truck up until next Monday. I am tearing all the Alpine stereo equipment out of it, putting junky tires on it, pulling my 4.6L stroker motor out, the scoops and rear spoiler and then turning her in.

The rig is a 2009 Tacoma Double-Cab short box. It has a camera of the trailer hitch, 115V outlet in the bed, bed liner, XM radio, V6 w/tow package and the TRD Sport package - in addition, it has a 3" TRD lift kit, 18" rims with off-road tires, running boards and I am having a toneau cover installed.

My only problem is going to be keeping Sheila from stealing it. She absolutely loves it.

That'd be my dream truck! I went to look last year, but ended up with a Rav 4, which i love, but still bothers me when i see one like yours.

Congrats, I like the new Toyota. Very nice truck. Hopefully people keep taking advantage of that deal and keep buying new vehicles. Believe me, up here in Detroit we do appreciate all the business that this program has generated for our local auto makers. From the entire Metro Detroit area, THANK YOU for your patronage and enjoy your new vehicles.

I upgraded also. Unfortunately, I did mine about 6 weeks before the cash for clunkers kicked in. I dumped the V10 powered Excursion and got an '09 F150 with a 4.6L V8. It sure is nice having the open bed versus the SUV style vehicle. I will need to replace the stock 17" wheels and tires so shes a little more capable in the nasty stuff and because they just look toooo small.

Very nice. In true Maize fashion, and my wife saying, "I told you so" I have some things to update the truck, I am adding a Randy Ellis Design front light bar with 2 PIAA 520 series lights, a tonneau cover and I putting in the XM radio. All this stuff is with the deal, but since I am a Toyota employee AND and ASE mechanic, I can order the stuff at cost and put it in myself. SWEEEEEEEEET!!!

I will post more pictures when I get it home and the new stuff on it. O2R is coming over Friday night to start tearing the stroker motor from the Jeep, and TGO is comming in Sat morning to finish her and haul next door to the dlrship. It isn't going to have any drive accessories, a radiator and minimal bolts holding it together. The dlrship said they care what condition it was in as long it drives on to the lot....that is what they are going to get. LOL

I also finished up the Tacoma this weekend and this evening.

I got the tonneau cover installed, the XM receiver installed, the TRD cat-back system installed, the light bar installed and the PIAA 525 series lights mounted. I only have the wiring left. I am waiting on the new PIAA wiring harness. That won't take very long.

Here is the tonneau cover. I don't really like the snap kind, but it was only $139 off EBay.

Here is the new TRD light bar w/the PIAA 525 series lights. These lights tie in with your regular headlamps. They also have a high beam and low beam of their own. When you have the running lights on, they have an LED that has a light glow to the light.

Well. It's time to bring everyone up to date with the truck. The new truck has 4000 miles on it, and I can't stand the factory stereo system.

So................

Here are the new speakers I got for it:

I have two sets of component speaker systems. One set is a Z6 series set of Boston Acoustics, those will be going in the front doors. The rear doors are getting a set of Boston Acoustics RM6 series. I also have a set of JL Audio components. The sub is a 1" JL Audio unit.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/5945/audio1z.jpg (http://img11.imageshack.us/i/audio1z.jpg/)

All the wiring is from Tsumani and Monster, including a Tsumani ANL digital fuse holder.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9845/audio2.jpg (http://img11.imageshack.us/i/audio2.jpg/)

The amp is an Alpine V-12 5 channel amp. I am also adding in my old Alpine 12 Disc changer.

http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/7643/audio3e.jpg (http://img36.imageshack.us/i/audio3e.jpg/)

These are the things I have in hand. What I am still waiting to get in the mail is the Alpine CDA-9887 head unit, Alpine KCE-300BT BlueTooth module, Alpine KCE-422i IPOD controller, Alpine IVA-W200 steering wheel interface, Alpine KTX-100EQ IMPRINT calibration kit, Q-Forms kick panel speaker housing (for the JL Audio component speakers), a 6" JL Audio subwoofer, TacoTunes' door speaker adapters and a Scosche Radio install kit.

Once everything is here, I will be making a custom fiberglass unit to go behind the back seats. It will house the 10" and 6" JL Audio subs, the amp, the crossovers and the 12 disc changer. It will all fit behind the seats.

Once everything is complete, the only thing showing will be the head unit and the Q-Forms kick panels. I will be reusing the XM unit from the factory.

I got the Q-Forms kick panels today, along with the rest of my Tsunami 4 gauge power lead. The 4 gauge is a little over kill for the amp I am running. But I plan on adding a much larger amp down the road. I am just wiring it all up to handle the larger amp now, rather than tear the interior apart twice to route the wiring properly.

I also got the sub wiring today, as well.

The Q-Forms are much sturdier than I thought. I thought they would be similar to the factory, but they are much thicker and much stiffer.

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/5465/audiostuff4.jpg (http://img25.imageshack.us/i/audiostuff4.jpg/)

There should be more component stuff rolling in this week.

I need to call around to junk yards to see if any have the panels that go behind the seats. I want to use the outside of those as the frame work. That way I am assured everything will fit behind the seats.

I opted for another route on the amps. While I love the old Punch series amps, the do not have any adjustability built into them, just and in/out.

In order for my new scheme to work, I need all channels adjustable.

I am going to leave the Ohms the way they are in the door speakers.

I just bought this amp, it is a smaller version of the one I already have and is a 2 channel 75watts per channel at 14.4v @ 4 ohms. And is fully adjustable, and I don't have run any resistors.

http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/9607/alpineunit.jpg (http://img682.imageshack.us/i/alpineunit.jpg/)

I will be running the kick panel speakers and rear door speakers at 4 ohms each and the first 4 channels of my big amp, and the subs on the 5th channel at 2 ohms.

I will split the feed for the front speakers and run the amp through the front door speakers at 3 ohms.

I also like the front biased mids and highs, this should do it nicely. I still have full adjustablity of every channel.

Getting close to having everything I need to get started, still need some key components.

I got the 6" JL Audio sub, the BlueTooth module, the XM module, the turn on wire, the dash plate, the head unit, the rest of the 4 gauge power wire, the 100a ANL fuse and wire harness adapter.

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2451/audiostuff5.jpg (http://img301.imageshack.us/i/audiostuff5.jpg/)

I also got the left side low-oxygen speaker wiring, the steering wheel adapter and sub box wiring housing:

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/2358/audiostuff6.jpg (http://img21.imageshack.us/i/audiostuff6.jpg/)

I just order the remote car start, the security interface module and the T-Harness today, too. That will be the first thing to go in before any of this starts.

I got some more stuff in over the weekend. I just ordered the Crime Stoppers remote car start, w/ security interface this last Friday. It should be here shortley. That is going in first.

I am still trying to figure out if the adapter for shark fin Lexus IS XM antenna will work with my Tacoma. I am trying to find the connector ends in the Toyota/Lexus manuals. I think they are the same, that will save me having to mount a different antenna.

I got the 8 guage wires that will go from the 4 gauge splitter to the two amps, the IPOD connector, the steering wheel module and the BlueTooth module.

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4140/new1p.jpg (http://img109.imageshack.us/i/new1p.jpg/)

I also got the new killer tweets from JL Audio:

http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/5339/new2co.jpg (http://img689.imageshack.us/i/new2co.jpg/)

The speaker mounts (I had made) also came in. I had them made from 1" Cordite (sp?) except for the tweeter mounts, the stuff that they make kitchen cutting boards from. They won't deteriorate like MDF will with moisture, and they will hold the speaker just fine. I had them made to replace the factory 6X9" front door speakers, and the rear doors. They were cut to fit my specific speakers. They turned out VERY nice.

The new JL Audio tweeters will be expoxied into place, and the mids will be screwed in place.

These are the fronts w/tweeter mountings:

I got the head unit in yesterday. It is an Alpine CDA-9887 w/IMPRINT capabilities.

Here are some shots (albeit bad shots) of the head unit as I will have it installed in the Tacoma. I have it set to match the red interior lights of the truck.

http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/1229/alpine3.jpg (http://img687.imageshack.us/i/alpine3.jpg/)

I just got done speaking with Droo at USS Radio. He confirmed that the adapter will fit my rig. So I don't have to tear the headliner out.....YEAH!!!

All I have left to buy is the IMPRINT equipment, and I am ready to go.

Even when a foreign vehicle is made in America, the ulimate profits ( after paying lower wages, etc. ) goes to Their country and keeps jobs and standards of living up in their country. Oh....Paaalease. Tell me you did NOT just say that. This just shows your lack on knowledge on how the world works.

So the people who built my vehicle right here in the USA, shipped it with shippers from right here in the USA, prepped and sold by a dealer right here in the USA, serviced by a dealer right here in the USA, financed by Toyota Financial Services which is located right here in the USA and paid for with my paycheck from Toyota makes a difference that the profits go to Japan.

I work for Toyota Financial Services, which is Corporate Toyota. So do about 35,000 other Americans. Yes. The profits go to Japan. So, what? What the heck difference does that make? They spend more money in the United States than a lot of so-called American companies.

I guess according to your logic, it is better for an American company to lay-off Americans and ship all their jobs overseas and keep the profits here than a foreign company bringing jobs here and employing Americans yet the profits go overseas.

How does that make ANY sense, whatsoever?

While American run companies are laying people off and shipping jobs overseas, endlessly embesseling money from stockholders investors, pulling Ponzi scams and generally driving the middle-class from this country - companies like Toyota are coming in and picking up the pieces left behind by those companies - and this is the attitude you give?

Again: What difference does it make where the profits go? It makes a bigger difference on how/where they spend those profits. Toyota is spending billions (yes that was BILLIONS) of dollars right here, at OUR home. GM, Chrysler and Ford are pulling factories from right here at home and building them in other countries. How can you even THINK that is better for this country? Isn't the object of keeping the money here is so that they can employ Americans, not line the pockets of the top executives?

As far as wages....you are dead wrong. Look at the facts for factory workers here in the United States. Toyota factory workers are NOT paid less, they are actually paid more than their Union counterparts - perhaps THAT is reason they don't have the Unions in Toyota factories.

I worked 15 years for MCI in the legal department and got laid-off so they could my job to another country. My great American company got bought out by another great American company - Verizon.

At one time, over 3,000 people worked for MCI in Cedar Rapids. It was a main customer service and collections hub. There were 6 different locations in town. They had a 10 story high rise, a 6 story high rise, a few other multilevel facilities.

I spoke with a friend that still has a job there. They have less than 300 people working here now. All the jobs went overseas. Our department was shipped to the Philippines. But Verizon stock holders are making money while Verizon is ruining thousand of peoples lives.

But hey, the profits are still here in the U.S.

Anyway...... Most of the stuff is purchased. I am just waiting on the 1.5 and 2.0 farad Volfenhag capacitors.

Last night, I had one of my Toyota techs come over to assist with the Crime Stoppers remote car starts. He is an electrical specialists. He knew where all the plugs were that we needed. There are no scotch locks in it, and all joints had the plugs pulled, the pins pulled from the plugs, the wires stripped an soldered with shrink wraped before the pins were put back into the plugs.

All unused wires were removed from the plugs to avoid clutter (like there isn't enough under the dash already.)

The days are getting colder and I decided to put this in before the stereo stuff as I will have to make the fiberglass piece for behind the seat and that may take a while.

I still have to finish up the wife's sled, I found the rear axle was frozen. I had to put it on my press to get it out. So I cleaned that up, put on the BC3 spacers, the new center shock I made, new rear springs, new slides and greased all the remaining shafts. That is ready to go back in. I have the chaincase cover over being machined to fit. Once that is all back, I can get that back together this weekend.

Today, I am tearing out the wall between two bedrooms (with closets) for my wife's new sewing room. She needs a place for her "toys". It is only fair that she has a 25' X 11' sewing room. I have a 30' x 40 garage. LOL.

I couldn't get the permits for the plutonium-fueled nuclear reactor that would be needed to generate the required 1.21 gigawatts of power for time travel. LOL....

Find the nearest court house with an inoperable closk tower atop it. Buy, or make your own lightning rod. Affix lightning rod to top of clock tower. At 10:04 P.M., lightning will strike clock tower generating the 1.21 gigawatts required to power the flux capacitor.Try affixing a rudimentary hook to the rear of the truck. Attach bare cable from light post to light post. Rig another bare cable from the clock tower to nearest light post.
I suggest 1 guage cable for this.

I got the caps in the mail yesterday. They are much larger than ones I have had in the past. But they should keep voltage on a an even keel to the amps.

The 1.5 will be mounted behind the seat, and the amp it feeds will be under the seat. That is further than I would like, but it would be hitting hard as it is only driving the component speakers in the Q-Forms panel. The 2.2 will be mount about 10" away from its amp. So that should be perfect.

In theory your flux capacitor idea is awesome, but remember this is to be a "Tow Vehicle". We all know that the trailer and sleds would NOT follow along. Maybe if Lynn devised a shrink ray machine then he could place the shrunk sleds under the tunau? Something to think about ....

Sorry, Dave. I didn't see the request.

It is a RevTech 3" lift kit.

The tires are Nitto LT285/65R18 Terra Grapplers, and they are mounted on XD Series Addict 18X9 rims. They are a lot taller than stock. But Toyota doesn't matter as the speedo is connected to the wheel speed sensors, and that ring is a fixed diameter. My speedo is off only about 1mph from my GPS at 70mph on the highway.

My cost on the stuff was around $2200.

Now that the boat is down the road, and the RK Tech build is well under way....it is time to start getting serious about the Tacoma.

I got the 1.5m, double layer window tint from Black Box today. They sell them pre-cut and with a Lifetime warranty against fading, or turning purple. I just got the 35%, it matches the rear window level perfectly, and color.

I also got the XM antenna adapter from TSS. I can use the factory roof mounted satelite antenna with an aftermarket unit.

In addition, the carbon fiber interior trim kit came today in the mail.

I am still waiting on my 3/8" Fat-Mat sound deadner for the roof, and the Fat-Mat extreme sound deadener for the rest of the cab. It will have sound deadener on the roof, the back of the cab, the doors, the floor and the firewall.

Here is the Carbon Fiber interior trim kit:

I got the Fat Mat stuff today.

The Rattle Trap is the thicker of the stuff, I am putting that on the roof. The Fat Mat is the normal thickness, and will be going everywhere else.

I got 25 square feet of the Rattle Trap, and 100 square feet of the Fat Mat. Once I get the RK Tech build done, I will be building the fiberglass sub box for behind the seat, and pulling the entire interior including the roof liner. I will be applying the Fat Max stuff, then I can start the wiring.

I will probably take a day or two off work to make sure I have enough to get it all done without having the vehicle down for too long.

I hope I get to it this summer.

I decided to go a little higher tech. I got rid of the CDA-9887, and bought a Alpine IVA-D900, a DVD navigation unit, IPOD interface, brake bypass unit, PXH-H700 Dolby surround sound processor and an RUX controller.

I just got the head unit, nav unit and IPOD interface today. I should get the PHX and RUX in the next couple of days.

Here is the processor I got for the unit. It also has a microphone to program the time delay like the older Imprint systems. But the microphone is permantly mounted and changes actively changes the setting automatically depending upon the people in the vehicle. It also has outputs for subs, and 3 sets of speakers, which is what I will have.

It also has phantom center channel for the DVD player and Dolby surround sound with navigation interrupt. It will automatically cut out the sound and only play the navigation directions.

The last thing I need to get is the Katzkins leather seat covers. The Katzkins are the ones Toyota dealer uses when a customer wants leather seats in the Tacomas. Tacoma cannot be ordered from Toyota with leather seats.

I am also getting extra matching leather to cover the center console lid and the door inserts.

With the heat, not much work being done outside on the trailer.

Instead of sitting idley by, I am collecting the finishing items for the Tacoma build up.

Today I got in the leather seat covers.

I also got the window tint. I ordered it a shade lighter than the back so when you combine with the stock slight tint it will be the same shade as the back windows.

I am just waiting for my sub-box from Tacotunes. Then I can make my amp board and when I am shooting the truck bed liner for my trailer, I can shoot the amp rack. The sub box and amp rack are going to be coated with Raptr truck bed liner to finish them off.

I am also scrapping the 12 disc CD changer. I have been steadily downloading all my CD's to my IPOD.

Sitting around a couple hours per night watching all 7 seasons of Buffey the Vampire Slayer and downloading music until this heat passes somewhat.

The wife is even getting into Buffy. When all 144 episodes are over, we are going to start on the Charmed series. Blueray and Netflix online is AWESOME!!!LOL
