Took my first real ride today with my neighbor, Norm Bratteig of Red Deer Resort on Lost Land Lake. We only put on about 30 miles but it was good to get out.
We laid the first track on Trail 3 north from Red Deer until we came to State Trail 8, where a few sled had been through. Headed NW on 8 into Bayfield County to trail 70 with a stop at Lakewoods Resort on Lake Namakagon for fuel, then continued west on 70 to the Ammo's Evergreen Tavern and back home.
No grooming yet on the trails we traveled as most swamps haven't froze up enough yet for grooming purposes. Forest Roads 622, 203 and 206 are scraped almost to the gravel and probably will be all year again.
The lakes are not staked, but the ice is close to being safe as reported by most local fisherman. I would guess that lake staking will be complete before Christmas. Norm and I plan to do Lost Land Lake this coming weekend!
I'm sure once the swamps are packed down and the lakes staked, grooming will be in full swing before Christmas.
