M8 Turbo, my way.

It gets pretty quiet around here in the summer time, so I am going to try and take some pictures and update my progress in hopes of making the summer shorter for all of us die hard sled heads.

The sled:
2010 Arctic Cat M8 HCR 153" Boondocker race gas turbo, larger intercooler with fan, Electronic Boost Controller (garret 2860).

I bought the sled fully built from a guy from Washington State with 600 miles on it. 200 with the turbo. I had it shipped to Wisconsin, and took it to Cooke City, MT for 6 days of riding immediately after the sled showed up. The sled ran great, and was issue free. I spent most of the first day learning the boondocker box, and checking the state of tune with some short climbs. Over the rest of the week I slowly cranked up the boost to about 9 pounds and it ran great. Very minimal tuning required. I was suprised at the lack of "turbo lag" and the smoothness of the powerband. It ran like a stock sled that had almost endless power on the big end.

I m just starting to tear the sled down to inspect everything, and familiarize myself with the additional systems, and components involved with the turbo. I have already found some small issues that will be easy to address.

Looks easy to work on now that the armor is off, NOT ! Nice sled, wathced your vid of the trip, sled sounded real good... good luck on the teardown and refresh, its a great idea at any stage of the game.

It's really not too bad under the hood in terms of getting work done. The intake just has a FEW more components... lol. I am currently in the process of going through the diamond drive, and having some powder coatind done to the rear suspension, and front a-arms. Found a few issues. The secondary clutch helix bolts are making slight contact with the Diamond Drive case, and there are a few areas that I would like to better protect wiring. Also, I have a small leak from the turbo oil tank that will be easily fixed with a new hose clamps. The motor itself is still very fresh, but I will check the reeds to make sure all is well, as that is a common issue with the turbo's. Though i should not have too many problems with the intercooler keeping charge temps in check, and the secondary injectors are spraying before the reeds helping to keep them cool as well.

Very nice. I am liking the turbos more and more.

I am hoping to sell one of my sleds this fall in Toronto.

The next project is going to be a Ski-Doo 1200 Turbo Renegade.

Have to sell some stuff, though.

The power of the turbo's are very addicting especially at altitude. Once you ride one, you are ruined when it comes to riding a naturally aspirated sled. I was amazed at how pull the rope and go the turbo M8 was when I had it out in Cooke a few weeks ago. But yeah, they aint cheap.
