131 trail in mich

hello was wondering if anyone knows where the snow trail that follows us131 starts on the south end.... what would be best way to get there?.....best place to get a map of area?.... thanx

the trail starts by sparta it is just to the west of 131. Sparta is a few miles north of grand rapids. I have not ridden that trail yet but if you look at [www.fishweb.com] then go to the snowmobiling part you can see some of the trail when you click on the southwestern part of mich. hope this helps some Tony.

thanx for your reply but was looking for more specifics...like where to park....have looked at fishweb and the dnr site and it is hard to tell exactly where the trail starts..

I rode trail 5 today. The furthest south that I could find to park was in Howard City. There is a nice parking lot and restroom just north of the four corners. I road with my kids to the north abut 30 miles, conditions were great, plenty of snow and smooth.

tx zman will keep howard city in mind if i cant find anything further to south hope to give trail a try on the 1st... hopefully the good conditions stay good...thanx again on the response/...

well we went to howard city on new years day.. parked at the gas station and rode up to reed city over to baldwin to wolf lk and cadillac and back down.... 8 hours and 180 miles few rough spots but all in all excellant ride..did find out from some locals that the trailhead starts at russell rd. just north of 57 and there is a staging area there...happy new year all and hope u enjoyed it as much as i did.:)
