I have a 1995 Polaris RXL 650 triple and broke a skirt on mag side piston . Is it possible just to rebuild that one cylinder ? It still holds good compression so I am hoping that it can be done .

You can but if you have it apart i would replace the rings on the other cylinders. Then make sure to replace all gaskets. If its using OEM pistons get an oem, wiseco, wiseco etc to keep them all the same.

Just found out from the shop I took it to . The thing had been rebuilt 1200 miles ago . It has wiseco pistons it . I just bought this sled at the start of this season it was a buddies back up sled . So I can just do the one .

If it broke a skirt off, and it was freshly rebuilt, I would be inclined to think that the cylinder is egg shaped. unless it was bored

Well took apart that cylinder and everything was fine . So now back to loading up fuel on the cylinder and only having a 2 cylinder . Got to love it though . :o

the trouble with wiseco pistons is you have to let the engine warm up good before riding . you cant start it and race it. it will do things like oh say bust a skirt or crack a piston or ummmm cold sieze it etc etc etc . sounds like maybe this issue . my yammy has wiseco's in it and i let it warm up till she's good and warm before i ride .

Well I can't just start it and race it . I own a RXL and it takes a while for it to warm up . I might ride it hard but I do know that you have to warm up a motor or bad things happen inside . Sold my last sled a 1989 indy 650 with just under 8000 miles and the motor was never apart once . Also had 1993 indy 500 that was never apart with over 12000 miles on it . I take very good care of my sleds . So I guess you never rode a RXL because they don't start and go till they are warm from cold .

my point was with wiseco piston's you have to be extra careful . i didnt say you did start it and take off . with that being said ive had snowmobiles for 18 years. and i know with wiseco piston's you have to let heat build up . anyway it was just a suggestion of why your motor broke .

Motor didn't go back to computer or sensor issue . Never did like wiseco pistons . Didn't do the rebuild on this motor in the first place . If I did have to rebuild this motor I would go for the high proformance teflon coated skirts . Did that in my project sled a 1992 500 with a carbed 650 triple in it . Been riding for 25 years so I know . Used to ice drag the old 500 triples .

It was a bad drop down resistor that went bad .
