I had a previous thread about losing a bearing on an idler wheel. I thought this would be something relatively simple, but I guess that's why it says "Junior Member" under my name!!!

Here's the deal: '95 Ski Doo Formula Z 583cc. Lost the bearing on the middle idler wheel on the bottom shaft in the rear of the suspension. Closer inspection reveals that I also need to replace two outer idlers due to chunks of rubber missing!

Here's the problem: My local dealer says the wheels on my sled are all discontinued. He can get the front idler I need via the aftermarket variety (which I don't have a problem with), but the two wheels for the back shaft are not available. They are 190mm and the biggest ones they can get are 178mm.

My question is: If I change all three wheels on that shaft, can I go to the smaller size? If I do will it change anything except where the track tension bolt is set? We are only talking 12mm here so it seems logical to me, but I'd like some advice from someone more into the mods than me. Thanks.

You want slightly larger if you have to change size this will reduce highfax wear smaller may cause problems with premature wear. Check with another dealer or Mike at DRH he can probably find it for you.

Bd is right, you need to have the size that belongs on the sled. I would get out the trusty old Dennis kirk book and see, bet they got what you need.

You would have to offset your rear shaft downward about a 1/4" with the smaller wheels to keep the bottom track flow from the slides even to the wheels...

slideways - I just checked my JR GRaham catalog and they have after market idler wheels w/ 7.5" diameter. Converted this equates to 190.5mm. Also, I believe dennis kirk would have it too. I would go back to a diff dealership or go-online and order..

I appreciate your advice and will spend some time tomorrow parts hunting. With the info I have from all of you I am confident that I can put the RIGHT parts on my sled-which is what I want! I'll post my findings and let you know how it went. Thanks again:)

I stopped in to a place I haven't been to in quite a while. Central Snowmobile in Green Bay WI. I found everything I needed. I was also informed that Ski Doo doesn't recommend the aftermarket idlers for my sled because they aren't made of aluminum. The aftermarket idlers are a molded plastic. They look pretty solid though. I hope to get it all together on Saturday and let you know how it rode on Monday. thanks for all of your help.
