With that being only a 500 I personal if it was my sled would run a 121x15x1 track . What type of rider are you ? I would think the 1" lug with 144 studs down the middle of the track would be pretty good . Just my 2 cents .

My vote goes for a 1" lug and 96 down the middle, not enough ponys to warrant 144. jus me though!

I'll have to agree , 96-128 is plenty for that sled. Go more than that and your turning alot of mass and really will start to defeat your purpose of studding. Alot of people think more is better ,but in studding there is a point where mass over penatration will take place. I look at it like this....
WHY does the guy who lays on the bed of nails dosent get full of holes and gets scured? ...when having so many (nails/studs) it speads the wt out over a bigger plane . you need room inbetween them to get enough pressure to penatrate.
So many people overkill studding thinking it's better but in the end they still wounder why they cant hook up off the line due to just the tips of the studs are scratching the surface.
I had a 00 mxz 500 with 128 studs in stock track and could smoke most 6,7 and 800's off the line . They would just spin up a pile and I would hook and go.

On that 97 . make sure you lower the extra carrier wheels in the tunnel this will give you more clearance for the bigger lug or studs . YOu can go as big as 1.5 lug in there but NO studs after 1" lug track , it gets really close to the excangers and you need to allow for track ballooning at higer speeds.
