I've got the same issue with a 99 Indy Trail. Same symptoms, dim light for a minute or so, then full power for the rest of the ride. Then at restart, same thing, goes dim for a minute, then full power again. Sled keeps running fine. I ordered a new Voltage regulator for mine to see if that's the issue.

hey spanky, keep me posted if that solves the problem. i've asked around thinking that was it but was told the voltage regulator either works or it doesn't light or no light. let me know what you find out.

I'll let ya know, if I get to ride it anymore this year. I'm hoping for one more trip for sure on Friday. I'll have the new one in by then and give it a whirl.

You should always look for pinched or shorted wires when this happens.
Under the seat is a good place to start.

yeah, i checked the wires and all seem to be fine. someone said it might be internal coil but don't have specs. to test.

I got no news for ya. I got it by UPS, the sled didn't get ridden for a couple weeks, (the wife bailed out of a couple trips on me) and then the snow melted. It lays in a box as I print this message. Sorry man!! I'll let ya know next January...LOL...
