A friend of mine recently picked up a 2000 Formula Deluxe. It has obviously been rolled and most of the repairs have been made. There are about three small cracks in the hood (about an inch long). They are on the back side of the hood (i.e. if you sit on the sled you will see the cracks right below the handlebars).

Is there a way to repair these? My buddy works with metal and his idea was to drill a hole on each side of the crack and put a plate behind the crack and rivet it in. I wanted to check and see if someone has a better idea before he punches six holes in his hood ( that just doesn't seem like the best idea to me!). We are most concerned with structural integrity. The cracks are small and will hardly be noticed. (Unless of course we put a rivet on each side of one ;)) My main concern is that they will extend with the opening and closing of the hood.

All input is welcome. Thanks

I have repaired my hood several times plus Jet ski parts using a 2 part system from Color Rite. This will make it virtually as strong as original. Use item number 2513 for the Plastic Repair Kit.

Basically you will take the back side and grind a grove into the cracked area, then rough sand around it. Next take the powder filler and fill the grove you made then add the liquid catalist. Let this sit for a few minutes then you are ready to go....

Good luck..

Will that stuff work to "glue" a hood that was broke in half?? I am having a hard time finding a hood for my kids indy lite. Not gonna buy a new one, it costs more than the sleds worth.

I would say its worth a try. I repaired my hood after a tree jumped out and stopped my sled. My hood had a hole punched thru it, massive cracks and a busted hinge mount. I fixed it all and for the most part you would never know it was damaged.
I later rolled it while riding with Howler in Idaho, the sled went for three rolls hood flew open yet the glue held on all of the places I had used it on. Wing_Nuts sled had a cracked hood where the strap comes in to the hood to hold it closed, I fixed that two years ago and its held every since.
I had a piece the size of a penny missing out of one of my Jet Ski mirrors housing. Took me around 20 minutes and it was fixed, sanded, primed, and painted...

I think it runs around $ 50.00 for the kit and I have got a ton of uses out of mine. I would buy it and try it.... you can always write or call me if you have any issues when you get ready to use it.

They didn't have a color match for my Limited Cat so I went with the plain white.
