Well, I've never had an efi sled, but yeah, your battery is what powers the fuel pump when you turn the key on. If there's no power from the battery to the ignition and then to the fuel pump, it can't get fuel to start. I'd say you need a new battery.

what i dont understand is that it has a pull start also so you would think it would start without a battery

Depends on how the system is set up. All of our cats are EFI and no batteries as they are mountain sleds.
I would pull the fuel filter first and replace it, also how old is the gas in the sleds tank ?

You need a battery on the old systems, and a fully charged good battery. The ignition system runs off the stator, thats why it will run on a prime when you pull the cord.

Check for a bad ground. Sound like that may be the cause. When you prime it and it runs do the lights fire up or not? Most sleds are notorious for shorting close to the belly pan so you will wanna check around there and see.

Try pulling a fuel line and seeing if the pump is working. Also check all electrical connections and the chassis ground as they can cause major problems if you have a weak or corroded connection aor bad ground.
