    Question '93 Polaris XLT

Hello all, I am new to this forum and came on to ask about a sled I am considering buying. It is a '93 XLT Polaris, and I've heard that they can have problems with the center cylinder going bad or something bad happening to them. I'm hoping that this isn't true as I've heard these are fast sleds for what they are and I found a good deal on one. Any help is appreciated, Jolly.

The 3rd cylinder problems occured on the earilier 650 tripples as I recall. The late model storms from what I remember. You should be perfectly safe with the sled. Perhaps some of the local shop tuners that are more familiar could chime in on this.

Thanks for you input howler. Anyone else know something about these sleds to be aware of? Jolly.

Not the fastest of the piston port tripples as this one was the 580 version but a good reliable sled.

The only problem we see, in our shop, with any regularity is the PTO crank bearing failures. The bearings fail I think from contamination (mostly water and then rust) more than oil related issues. Polaris changed things in the case to give the PTO bearings more oil but it did'nt seem to help as far as the number of failures in our shop anyway.

I have the exact same sled. Bought it used in 1995 with 1200 mi. The kid rides it now, it has over 6000mi and the only part I have had to replace is the recoil. Still runs like a top.

I finally got a chance to go look at the sled yesterday, and found it to be in pretty good shape besides the fact that the motor was strewn about this guys shop in the process of being rebuilt. Apparently because it was starved of fuel and ended up scoring the pistons, I wouldn't think it'd be anything to be afraid of.

I have a 96' XLT and have never had a problem with it. It just eats the gas and oil because of the triple cylinders.

I have a 97 XLT special ..... no problems; also a 98 XLT and no problems.... take it to a dealer for an annual checkup with filters replacements including oil filter and let her run hard the first couple of hours to work the summer bugs out of her.... Enjoy!
