    STOLEN SLEDS and TRAILER

I really hope that they find the person/people involved in this. I've seen this particular owner on the trails in the northwoods many times while riding.

TOWN OF MENASHA — Police are looking for a trailer and two snowmobiles, including one that was modified slightly for use by a man paralyzed from the chest down.

The items were reported stolen during the weekend from 2340 American Drive.

Town police said the theft, valued at about $6,600, was reported early Monday afternoon and is believed to have occurred between 5 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday when the enclosed and locked trailer was parked outside the town’s utility district office.

The snowmobiles and trailer are owned by Jeffrey Roth, town water utility superintendent, who has been wheelchair-bound since falling from a tree stand during the 1998 bow deer hunting season.

“The whole thing is sad that he’s worked so hard and it’s challenge for him every day,” said Kristine Roth, his wife of 28 years. “It’s one of the few outdoor activities that he and I can do together.”

The trailer is described as a 14-foot black aluminum Loadmaster trailer with a V-nose and front and rear ramp doors with two snowmobiles inside.

The snowmobiles are a 2001 gray Arctic Cat, which had a rack to which Roth could attach his wheelchair when he rides, and a 1997 black Arctic Cat, with the name Kristy on the front windshield.

Anyone with information concerning the trailer or snowmobiles is asked to contact the Town of Menasha Police Department at 920-720-7109.

Ya gotta hope that some buddies "stole" it to spruce it up for him or something. What are people thinking these days?

    Good news!

    Good news on this one.

According to postcrescent.com, the sleds were recovered. The trailer is still missing, but the police were able to recover the sleds and caught someone in the process.

    Sleds are found

MENASHA — Two snowmobiles taken over the weekend from a Menasha town employee have been recovered.

The snowmobiles and an enclosed and locked trailer, owned by Jeffrey Roth, the town's water utility superintendent, were parked outside the town’s utility district office when they disappeared Saturday night or Sunday morning.

One of the snowmobiles had been altered slightly for use by Roth, who is paralyzed from the chest down since falling from a tree stand during the 1998 bow deer hunting season and uses a wheelchair.

Roth said a friend called him today after seeing the snowmobiles near a warehouse near Fox River Mall, and Roth went to identify them.

When he determined the sleds were his, he called police.

“I went and looked and they were,” he said. “I waited right there.”

The suspect came up to ask him what he was doing, and Roth told him the truth.

“I’m just looking at those snowmobiles. I think they are mine,” he said.

The man left, but Roth was able to identify his truck, and police located the man later.

Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department officials were not available tonight to provide details on the case.

Roth said the suspect approached his friend on Monday trying to sell the snowmobiles, and said the trailer was not yet recovered.

“It sure surprised me,” he said. “I never thought I’d seen them again. That’s stuff you strip and move.”
