    cougar 550 having issues

    its got spark and fuel but after it passes the 3000 rpm mark it shuts down, the sparks are wet when we pulled em, any tips?

    some of the older cats had magnets on the slides that would break loose and activate a engine kill condition. My old cat did this and i couldn't get spark. you just have to unscrew the slide cap and pull the slide out and you will see what i am talking about.

    make sure your chokes aren't stuck or maybe crank seal

    This can be caused by many things. More information about conditions before it dies would be helpful. Is it warmed up? carbs cleaned? etc. let us know and we can be more helpful

    My guess (as mentioned above) would be electrical, as in a throttle overide. That would explain why it would run at, not so much the rpm you stated, but the actual cable and movement of your carb slides.
