Thread: clutch noise

    clutch noise

    what i suspect to be the clutch is making an almost grinding noise right at engagement.

    1997 XC 600

    any input is appreciated. Thanks guys

    You can do a visual on the clutch weights and rollers. If it makes a grinding sound it the point of engagement, it could also be the moveable sheave bushing. Look for uneven wear marks on the weights and rollers.
    It could be the chain jumping the gears in the chain case, or the drive cog jumping the track.
    Check the chain case tension and the track tension.

    Lift the rear and run the rpms up, i would suspect chaincase more then clutch, it is possible as mentioned that the bushing is shot but I would think more of a chain rub or something of that nature in the chaincase (possibly out of chaincase oil????)
