    registration

dumb queston here, but if your sled is regestered in wis. can you ride the trails in your home state (F.I.B.) without having a IL sticker? a friend what's to borrow my sled and I want to make sure it's legal any input would be great thanx

If you live in Illinois and own the sled it must be registered in Illinois if they stop you and you show them a Illinois drivers license and don't have a Ill. sticker then they will give you a ticket ,but if you live in wisconson, and it's registered in Wisconsin you can ride in Illinois with out a Illinois sticker. that's what i was told by the Illinois dnr.

You don't have to be a resident of Wisconsin to have a sled registered there. You can show them a drivers license from Texas, and as long as you have Wisconsin stickers, or stickers from another state with a non-resident trail pass. Illinois laws, I believe, are if you are registered in another state then you are legal. I live in Illinois and all my sleds are registered in Wisconsin, and when we have snow here, I ride here and never had a problem

I know that,my sleds are registered in both state's but if you get stopped in Illinois by the DNR and show them a Illinois drivers license and don't have a Ill. sticker they can give you a ticket. Illinois requires that if you live in Illinois your sled be registered in Ill.

Ok, you win. But I'm still not going to register in Illinois. I been riding 35 years and have yet to be on an Illinois trail. I will give my money to a state that has trails.

Whens the last time you seen a dnr stop a snowmobile in IL?? And if you get stoped by a cop in IL........ well your on a snow mobile hes in a warm car your not going to get stoped if he turnes his lights on turn the other way. I have acctuly seen a cop pull over a kid on a quad. The copper stayed in the car and made the rider walk up to him.

Us Illinions shouldnt have to register a sled in IL. We dont have to register ATV. If IL had some place for us to ride leagaly then i would but since they dont mines registerd in WI and i'm going to still ride it here in IL. what do i care i havnt registerd any of my other sleds since we have had them. unless we head north.

Enuff ranting. i'm just saying how much is the registration 18 a year. How much is a ticket??? 20 bucks. i have no clue. Its worth the risk that and you can always play stupid. I'm told i am very good at that.

    Talking registration

ya it's $18 for three years, not sure about the fine though like you said it depend's on the mood of the law I just don't what a bunch of sticker's on my ride it makes it look gaude. I wonder if it has ever been thought of trying like a tri-state sticker program for instance mich, wis, il and then divide the money between them sound's simple but probabley a lot of paper work. it to me would be nice just to have one sticker and the freedom to travel state to state with out the hassle of "oh shoot i have to get a permit to ride into michagan today from let's say land of lakes "then say next week i'm going to ride in northern il one sticker takes care of it all any comment? please i'm very sensitive i can't take a lot of abuse! lol
