    Question Studs pulling out

I have a bunch of studs pulling out of my track, probably 1/4 of them, mostly on the same side. This is my first sled with studs, I bought it like this. Should I try to replace the empty stud hole spots, remove the remaining studs, or run it 'til they're all gone and replace the track???? The ones that are missing obviously ate up my idlers, which I just replaced. I went through the track and suspension and can't really see an obvious reason for the studs to be coming out. Any pointers??

If you want to sqeeze some more life out of the track, I would pull the remaining studs and ride it like that. You definitely do not want to try to put studs back where they tore out. If it were mine, I would just replace the track, since it has obviously deteriorated. Blowing out a track at high speed can REALLY ruin your day.

Ditto, Bad track = bad day.

They are not cheap or the easiest thing to replace but it will be worth it.
Waiting on parts and my new track will be in (no studs this time)

If you go that route you can go with a pre-drilled setup that will allow you to put them in with a Warranty through Camoplast on pull throughs (not sure on the stipulations that go with that)

The only real thing you can do is check the studs to make sure they are tight. if not they will pull through easy.

new track is cheaper than a new sled. and if you got a buddy to help you with the install even better. its going to be atleast a half days work. unless you have done it b4. I think me & al did mine in 3 hours. hardest part on mine was those friggen pipe & muffleer springs. But anywoooo tracksUSA.com reasonably priced and you get the track to your door ups in i think mine took 5 days tops.

Thanks guys, i really don't have the funds, but it sounds like it could be pretty ugly if it breaks on the trail. No studs for me next time!!!

Some of your pull-thru problem could be due to the incorrect quantity of studs for the horsepower your machine makes. Some people will try and run like 96 studs on a 800 or something, and wonder why they keep ripping studs out. I don't know what your combo is, but most all of the stud manufacturers will have a guide available for size and quantity for many individual sleds. The reason being- the load put on the studs is distributed between all of them in contact with the surface. High load vs fewer studs gripping means they get over-stressed and fail. And obviously they will create some damage to yoru track each time they tear out.

If you have significantly less than what they recommend, I'd suggest removing them altogether. If you say that 1/4 of them are already gone, you are likely under-studded at this point, and they will probably continue to keep coming out if you don't just take them off on your own.

I am a fan of them. I had not ridden a sled with studs in the track until I purchased my 700, but as soon as I got that thing out on the trails and lakes, I realized how much help having studs can offer in acceleration and braking. Most of the others I've ridden with have not added studs to their machines, and I see it every time out, the lack of traction that they will have over the same terrain that I can climb without issue.

I hope you get your track figured out. I'm sorry that your experience with the studs hasn't been good so far.

I've had some good luck last year found 1 NIB track and one BFN takeoff track 150 ea. shipped... You got to be willing to search and scrub thru the forum trenches though...

If your gonna ride with the exist'n one make sure you remove the remain'n studs...

With the snow on the way, I don't have the patience to search much for a track, so I took it to the dealer today to have a new track and hyfax put on. I got a pretty good deal on the track, but i'm sure the labor will bite me in the ars. I just don't have the means to replace it all. None of the fancy tools, hoists, stands etc... I guess if i felt like spending a whole day on it, crawling around on my garage floor, I could cypher it out. So, by tomorrow night, i'll have a new track and slides on the MXZ and might even ride it home from the dealer. 3"-6" on the way tonight!!!! Giddy Up

Thanks for the pointers and help

Let us know how much the labor is, i would guess about 200-300 myself. Good luck and enjoy the snow, mines still in the air waiting on suspension parts, if its not to late you might want to have them put the bearing in the top idlers that you can't get to easily that way they are good. The lower wheels can be replaced with the skid in the tunnel.
