    Seat repair

Looking for advice and input on how to fix/replace the vinyl on my seat. '96 Formula Z.

I bought a used seat that looked to be in good shape last year. Second time up north, I lean over to undo the hood latch and the seat cracks where I put my hand on it. Right in the middle on top it is all spider cracks.

Looking online and in catalogs I see vinyl seat covers precut to fit my seat. IS this the way to go? I am assuming I would take off the old vinyl and replace it with the new. If anyone has advice, tips or amusing experiences please feel free to share. Thanks.

I have no upholstering know how, so me, I would find a local upholsterer and let them tackle it. I would think it would be a job for someone who does it for a living. Plus, he/she could do it in half the time and do a better job than I could. Just me though.

I have replaced a couple seat covers on polaris sleds and they really were not to bad to do. I bought the replacement covers from Dennis Kirk. They just stapled on.

Replaced cover on mine took it to local boat upholstrey shop and had them put wave runner seat material on it, water proof, and really flexable. Only thing that I had to do was put some wax on it because it is a sticky type material. I like to slide around on the seat.

    Update

I ordered a cover from Dennis Kirk and decided to take my first crack at upholstery. Removed the old cover quick enough. The foam underneath was still in good shape. Cover was precut, so after a test fit, assembly was about to begin....Turns out you must need a pretty good stapler to get staples into that plastic seat! Ended up using 1/4 inch screws with washers to attach the new cover. It turned out just fine. Heating the vinyl with a hair dryer to increase flexibility was the key that made for the best progress. All in all, not a bad Saturday afternoon in the garage. Thanks for your advice.

thanks for the update. sounds good to me. may have needed a pneumatic air gun to get staples to work.

    could be...

I was thinking the same thing. I noticed when I took the old cover off that a lot of the staples were doubles and even a few triples. I've never used a pneumatic stapler, but was wondering if that may have been a sign of one?
