Post Lost Land Lake - Sawyer County

I will be heading out shortly to help put the stick trails up across Lost Land Lake here in NE Sawyer County. Sawyer County Trail 3, 22, 25 all intersect in the middle of Lost Land Lake. Hopefully won't need a life jacket! Reports are the ice is 5-7" thick.

Check back tonight to see how we did!

Sticks are not up on any of the area lakes that I know of. We attempted to get Lost Land Lake today but there was just too much slush on top of any ice so we attempt to pack snow/slushy spots and will stick it this weekend or early next week. I believe the report of 5-7" may have come from a bay and not out in the middle.

We went to Hayward Power Sports and got the update that no stick trails are in yet. Attempts were also made on the Tiger Cat Flowage also but no luck. We decided to try to pack the Spider Lake Chain trail on our way home but actual encountered very thin ice and looped back to the boat landing.

Hey Hiawatha, you know I never water skip but does it count as water skipping if the skis stay up on a thin layer of ice but the track is paddling in open water. Yep, that thin in places. Even the shallower lakes up here aren't ready yet

We did manage to ride about 50 miles in all and had lunch at the Wheel Inn on Hwy 77 near Cty OO. We moved a ton of rotten logs and debris of trail 3 heading south to Trail 5 along Hwy 77. Trail 5 had seen the groomer overnight. Fun day of very early season riding conditions.

Headed back out in the next hour to finish(start) what we wanted to do last week. The trail across Lost Land Lake should be set up and froze as we have crossed it numerous times since last week to expose and pack any slushy spots on the trail. It was well below zero last night! I will report back at days end on how we did.

THE ICE IS NOT SAFE YET!

Stick trail is up on Lost Land Lake but should not be traveled yet!

We went through the ice after we were all done and heading home. Long, cold, wet day. A two hour job ended up being a nine hour ordeal. No one injured but we lost some equipment and damaged other equipment.

We watched a guy with a large ATV pull a huge trailer ice fishing shack across this same area last Thursday. We were not as lucky as the ice fisherman was!
