Another cold morning in Eagle River. 7 below zero at 9:30am. High of 20 today. So a great day for riding!
Tomorrow, Tuesday high of 24 & low of 8. Wednesday high of 25 low of 8. Snow in the forecast for both days.
Have to tell you that I have been under rating the trails. They are GOOD to FAIR. All are covered with a hard snow surface. The Good trails have plenty of loose snow. the Fair trails have less or no loose snow. There is snirt at some of the road crossings. Rode 100 miles on Saturday & 50 miles on Sunday & found all types of riding with most pretty darn good. Icy under the snow so have to slow down on some of the trails.
Here is what I saw riding on Saturday & Sunday:
Saturday's ride from Bayside across Catfish. Off at Braywood to Trail 10 heading to the grade/13 -All GOOD. Grade Very Good. To 70W which is Fair to Good. To just past Denoyers crossing highway on 17S to 7(Paint Ball Field)-Good. To 7N to 17S in the Sugar Camp Trails-Very Good to Good. Onto 15 coming out near Pitlik's-Good. Heading south toward Rhinelander-Fair with less loose snow. East toward Three Lakes on Club Trails-Fair to Good. Coming out on across the Airport to Big Stone onto Kimble Creek Trail(think that Trail 11)-Fair, Good & Very Good. To 10W toward town-Fair. Picking up Catfish Lake Loop by 12 Pines to the Bayside.
Sunday's ride from the Bayside we took the land route of the Catfish Lake Loop which is Spruce Lane to Bloom Rd. to Trail 10 to town. This was pretty icy so I'd say use the route we took on Saturday across Catfish Lake to the boat launch at Braywood. We took trail 10 to the grade/trails 13 all snow covered with a bit of chop on trail 10 & 13. Grooming last night should have fixed that. From there we headed out on Trail 70W to Trail 17S to 7 across the Paint Ball Field. Then to 17 for a short way onto Trail 15 to Trail 6 into St. Germain. From St. Germain we crossed Little St. Germain Lk to 70/7. Turning on to just 70 all the way back to Eagle River. Took the grade/13 to 10 to Braywood cut across to Catfish Lake Loop to the Bayside. Everything was snow covered. A few snirty hills on 15 & pretty icy at the start of 70. Plenty of snow just really icy underneath. All in all Good riding.
Catfish Loop safe & in good shape by the barrels. Same for Eagle Lake Trail.
All 100 Miles of Sno-Eagles Country groomed again last night. Doing a lot of bump cutting.
Keep doing the SNOW DANCE!
See ya on the trails!
