    Wont restart when hot

    Hey there.

Just looking for some ideas. Maybe someone has had this issue before.

I have a 2000 SkiDoo Formula 500 LC. It runs great. Pump the primer 1-2 times and starts on the first or second pull when cold..

As long as i leave it running, it will stay running all day long.

if i shut it down when its hot, some times it will fire right away and as long as i hit the throttle quick enough it will stay running.

if it sputters and dies on the restart, it will not start from then on out. i have even taken out plugs when this happens, and it just wont fire. The plugs are wet, so i am thinking it is flooding.. but the question is why?

    I have heard carbs.
I have heard primer is not sealed and flooding the engine.
    I have heard stator.
If the issue wont replicate at the repair place, they cant fix it.

What do i need to do (besides buy a new sled, trust me i have thought this long and hard lol) to find out what the problem is?

I can fix anything. just need ideas.

Sounds like carbs need good cleaning, float needle seat in particular. When was the last time they were cleaned. If your using oxegenated fuel this should happen every fall even with stabile in fuel. Good luck.

I have a 470 LC ski doo that has the exact same condition. In my case its not a "everytime" situation however where it wont start after a heat soak, but it does occur. I have "done it all" in regards to a fix and the situation is unchanged. I understand why its happening, it has a fuel leak down condition which results in a flood of fuel, but I do not know why, it almost like a syphoning effect. I have only found one fix... when the engine will not refire, hold the throttle wide open as you would with any "flooded" condition, this has worked for 8 years and running. Like always, where my situation is much like yours, the cause "could" be differant, I would recommend a new coil as a first measure if my "fix" does not produce results.

I agree with one2race. I had a 96 Ski Doo that had the same symptoms as you describe. I chased it for years and the only "fix" I ever found is the same as one2race has described.

Well there is the finial "fix" that I did. But I really don't recommend hitting a deer with your snowmobile.

    hot restart

Ok all your answers could be correct, but you need to do a little diagnostic work . first when this happens you have to see what is , or is not working. First thing to check is see if there is spark. Pull a plug wire off and install a spare plug into the wire. lay it on the top of the motor incontact with the engine , to make a ground pull, or crank over the sled. if there is spark its a good bet it is a fuel problem.

does the engine have to be fully warmed up before this happens ? with my experiance I would guess it will be a spark problem. Does this sled have a MPEM module. This a very common problem when hot. give me a shout if you need any more help !

    It's a notorius Ski-Doo issue.

They have such huge pilot jets which really aid in cold start issues, but makes it a detroment to warm start issues.

The best way to start a Ski-Doo when it is warm is to hold the throttle about a 1/4" open while you pull the rope.
