Bought a 90 Polaris Indy 500, any thoughts?

It's been 6 to 7 years since my last sled. Never been able to buy new...always someone else's headache. This sled seemed in good shape...picked it up for $700.00. Good buy? Anything to watch out for?
Any help would be appreciated!

6500 Miles, rolled once with a slightly cracked hood. It came with a cover, garage stands and 96 studs to add, if wanted.

check the wheels and suspension, carbs, chain case, greese everything up

488 liquid is about as bullet proof as it gets, and like it was said, just go through and make sure everything is lubed, and nothing is broken or worn out, like the idler wheel bearings. If they roll rough, might need to replace them.

If you have the time and expertise, wouldn't be a bad idea to just pull the skid and go through it on the bench. How many miles on it?

That many miles, the clutch probably needs some new parts also. It's a very good engine. They just finally quit making that sled 2 years ago. I have a '92 2-up I'm selling and had a '88 400 with that many miles before that. Pretty much the same sled.

Just for giggles, what are you asking for your 92, Tool?

Also, any suggestions on the studs? I have several kids ranging from 18 to 6 whom will also be riding this sled too. A little on ice, but mostly on trails.

'92 500 Classic Touring 2-up seat, 136 track, electric start (needs battery), reverse, 3247 miles, electric fuel gage, cover, Wis. registration is paid for this and next season. $900 or make an offer. I live in De Pere, Green Bay area. I could e-mail some pictures. There is a crack in the windshield, other wise just rust on skis and worn paint on the running boards. Also ski skins and a jug of oil. Cannot use it in the other sleds.

I have a 1990 Indy 650 for 5 seasons now and have loved it. It goes through some plugs, but has been extremely reliable (except when you dont have any gas in it). I took a ride already this year and was trying to burn out the summer gas and found myself stuck on the trail. Luckily my wife was right behind me with another trusty 97 Polaris Ultra SP. I have done the routine maintenance on the sleds (plugs, grease, carbs), and have them both. I have thought about moving into something newer but can't justify the $$$.

The motor should look preatty close to your 97. but a rxl 650 is a whole nother game.

I would watch out for that motor crank bearings like to go at 5500 miles but you never know !? Look for an extra 10 rear skid or like a 650 skid you'll notice a big ride difference . Hey now 650 carbed and RXL 650 motor loook a like own both love my RXL . One more thing spend five dollars and put on new plug caps for your plugs . If they are loose or even look old they aree losing you proformance .
