Steering for 94' Indy Classic 500

I just got a 94' Indy Classic 500 that hasn't been run for 2 years and I can't get it to turn. I greased the zerk coming from the handle bars, but that didn't help. I think the problem is in the front. Does anyone know if I can just grease those zerks as well, or do I have to pull that all out? It seems like it's froze up in there. Is it hard to get that front part apart? Any help is greatly welcomed. Never owned a snowmobile before and have barely ridden one, so I'd like to get this thing runnin"!

Should be an easy fix. if it were me, I would take the bolts out that connect the outer tie rod ends and the spindle link. That will tell you if it's the steering shaft or spindles. Be sure to take the time and make it turn as easy as you can, last thing you need is stiff steering.
Also, if it has not been run, clean the carbs!

Polaris Indy Trailing Arm CLA procedure

I've done this so many times...

The likely culpret is the spindle bushings. First, get yourself an alignment rod.

5/8"D cold rolled steel somewhere in the 48" length.

Lift the front of the sled. Take a center punch and mark the top of the spindle and the steering arm so you can get the to back together close.

Remove the ski bolt, remove the ski, remove the ski bushing from the spindle.

Remove the rod end bolt that secures the steering rod end (spherical rod end) to the steering arm.

Remove the steering arm from the spindle and then the spindle from the trailing arm.

Clean the bore of the trailing arm where the spindle sits. Clean the spindle and remove any rust.

Clean the ski bushing bore and remove any rust from the bushing, bolts, attachment points.

Coat the spindle shaft, and bore with a light coat of grease.

Install the spindle into the trailing arm adn install the steering arm aligning the punch marks you made BEFORE you removed it. Install pinch bolt.

coat the ski bushing and the bore of bushing with a light coat of grease.

Insert the alingment bar into the spindle checking alignment. The bar should slide back and forth in the spindles. The exception would be the XCR440 and XLT-SP. Check with Polaris for those aligment procedures.

Connect the steering rod ends to the steering arms and check alignment of the handle bars. Adjust steering rods as necessary.

Remove alignment bar and coat ski bushing with a light coat of grease inside and out.

Install ski, ski bushing bolt, nut and cotter pin.

    Check all bolts for tightness.

Apply grease from grease gun to all Zerk fittings.

    Go ride.

    Phil
