    where did the fire go

Ok, got a question an I'm no good with electrical stuff. A guy brought me a john deere trailfire to see if I can get it going again. The key would shock him as he shut the sled off, so he puts a new switch in. By the way, it has electric start. The switch was replaced with the wrong one and would start turning over as soon as the key was turned on, not to "start". We replaced the switch with the correct one and now it has virtually no spark. It looks like when the engine turns over it will spark once or three times and lose it. I have no idea how to check the coil, but in my mind, its the only thing it could be. It has a cdi box, and I always thought that it worked or it didnt. I have seen alot of things, but this is weird.

    coil issue

I fried a coil this past weekend on a Vmax 600. Here's how we figured out it was the coil:

cruising across a lake the sled just died. pulled plugs and they looked good. Did a spark test by pulling plugs and setting them on top of the engine with the cathodes grounded. Pulled rope and had absolutely no spark. One of three possibilities:

    1. Stator went out. Simple test. Pull the rope with the ignition on and look to see if anything electrical lights up. In our case the taillight flickered. So we knew it was putting out electricity.

    2. CDI box. No test for this. If you eliminate the rest, then this is most likely the problem

    3. Coil. Two wires leading to coil one is a ground. take apart the other connector and put a circuit tester on the wire from the CDI. pulled the rope and the circuit tester lit up. That means we had power going into the coil and nothing coming out. Coil must be junk.

Hope this helps. Feel free to pm me if you got a question. I think you already have my e-mail. If not, let me know.
