    98 Indy Trail rear shock

Do I need to pull the whole skid out just to change my rear shock on my Indy Trail 500? I have a hunch the shock is shot and I'm thinkin" it needs to be replaced. Is there an easy way to do this. Do I need to compress the suspension or lift it off the ground? My other issue is getting the lower bolt all the way out to pull the shock. My bolt hits the slide rail.

Not sure on the 98, but I swapped out the rear shock on my 92 without removing the skid. Looks like I could on my 99 as well, unless you are talking the front shock, then a skid removal might be your best option.

Pull the skid then you can go through it all when it is out .

i agree removing skid on the indys is fairly easy just 4 bolts, loosen rear idler tension then either jack up rear or lay sled on its side on some cardboard or a mat and pull it right out..... it will make changing shock much easier and will be able to inspect better to see if there is any other problems...........what kind of problem is it having. my cousin had to just change torsion springs on his 99 and he originally thought it needed a shock.

I changed the cams for the main spring a couple weeks ago for my brother to ride it. We set it up to be stiffest. But then, my kid and a buddy were out screwing around in the field with it. I have a hunch something is wrong because it looks like it sits lower now, and it doesn't spring back up after pushing it down. I don't see anything broken or obvious underneath, so I suspect the shock itself. ??? I thought I'd pull the shock to get a new one, but I ran into the problem of not even being able to get the lower bolt out past the slide.
