    motor trouble PLZ HELP

    hey i just put a top end in my xlt. i took it out and the fuel pump went out of it so i changed pump and then when i took it out it burnt up a plug and lost a cylinder so i changed plugs and it will run fine just cruisin but if i ride it hard or am on a big climb it will peter out and quit after a while- i check the colors of the plugs and their a chocolate color so its not to lean been runnin NGK BR9ES switched to BR8ES but want to see if anybody has any idea whats wrong with it before i take it up again--a buddy of mine thinks it might be the stator please help

    When was the last time you cleaned the carbs sounds like a good cleaning
    might help.

    i cleaned them right after i got the motor back together

    Carbs are probably not set proper, you should adjust the carbs rather then going to a hotter plug whenever possible. Hows the spark look? strong weak inconsistant?

    if you burnt up a plug its still lean i would think . by going to an 8 you went hotter incase you didnt know . fuel filter plugged ? idle ok ? spray carb or brake clean around carbs and boots make sure it doesnt have vacuum leaks . i like the plugs to be cardboard color .

    if you running an XLT it probably called for B9ES plugs. When you said it burned up a plug did it melt or just carbon up and foul out? If it fouled out I had that happen to a used XLT I purchased in Tomahawk the same day I bought it. I called my dealer back in IL and he said to run B8ES instead and I did and never had that happen again and the sled always ran fine and we put a lot of miles on it with those plugs.
