    M-10 clicking noise

suspension (i think) has this annoying clicking noise that started last weekend. It's bothering the __ out of me cause I know its sign that something is wrong or soon to be wrong. I've checked all the obvious / bolts / springs / idler wheels / etc. Thought I would post to find out if anyone else had this problem. Sled is an 02 polaris edge w/ M-10 suspension and the noise seems to more pronounced on the chaincase side of the sled..
    any suggestions?

lift the rear and spin the track and see where its at, could be a bearing in the chaincase, idler wheel or something of that nature. Defintely check it out before it goes.

    Exclamation

make sure your hyfax front bolt hasnt broke and your hyfax hasnt moved back and when the track makes the bend up it isnt hitting on your hyfax front or rear for that matter . had that happen once !
i assume there isnt ice rolling around either ? rite ?

i'll try what you said - the noise seems to be metal on metal but I'll check the hyfax regardless. thx and I'll post what i find...

Maybe I'll convince the wife that I need a new sled! yeah right.

    did ya find anything ?

    found it.

problem: There is a bushing that aligns the front shock (shock on the rear susp closest to the front of the sled) which the OD of the bushing could contact the inside track lugs/cogs. Everytime there was contact the bushing would rotate making this, what sounded like, a clicking /shreaking noise.

root cause: Idler wheels (inner) that are closest to the shock had completely wore or torn off the rubber on the outer diamer of the wheels. Since the diameter of the wheels were significantly reduced they would alloy the track to contact the bushing (BTW - I noticed the wheels wearing and actually already purchased the wheels but did not have time to replace and thought I would squeeze one more ride off of them - my bad).

corrective action: Replaced both idler wheels and noise was eliminated.

lessons learned: abnormal noises are signs - don't procrasinate and make sure to find/fix or pay extra $$ later. This time it was not a big deal but thought I would mention for any new sledders reading this post.

If anyone has a similiar problem and would like more info w/ some illustrations then just let me know. I'm not sure I did a good job explaining.

p.s. Had a nice ride on saturday in michigan around the meredith / leota / hougton lake area. A lot of traffic but the trails held up nicely. 3 weekend in row!
