I might possibly be trading my bike for an 01 mxz 800 with 1500 miles. Looks clean but what should i really look into on it....Especially if i may not be able to test ride? Also, anyone have an estimated value on it?

here's my opinion
check the track ! if studded check for pulled thru stud's or bent or worn studs
if studs are worn bad then you have to look at replacement's . they average about $ 1.20 to a $ 1.30 each take that times as many studs you have .
look at the the lugs ........ ripped ? torn ? average track $ 400.00 to $550.00
how many mile's ? rode easy ...... 500 miles a year mabye ? a must is to check compression . 130 to 150 both cylinder's . both cylinder's should be within 5 lbs. or so .
has it been wrecked ? look at belly pan, tunnel , ski's , hood .......
i seen about 3 2000 mxz 700's go for about $ 2800.00 on ebay . maybe use that as a guide . keep in mind snowmobiles may be cheap to buy used but are a little costly somtimes to repair . ie. track $ 500.00 studs $ 200.00
belt $ 80.00 dollars,
somtimes , or most of the time parts not including labor are more then the sled is worth . if you ask me if the sled looks aged or worn or hard ridden its prolly not worth it .

This is just my 2 cent, but I would never buy a used sled with out ridding it first not just around the yard either, If he or she is interested in selling it, then they should have no problem with you putting a few miles on it.
I had one and loved it. They are plenty fast and handle awesome. Make sure it has the updated chrome rings in it. The original Moly ones will eventually pit.
Strange time of year to get rid of a bike isn't it? I'd keep the bike for the summer, save some dough, and look at getting a sled in the fall that is newer and that you can test drive. You don't wanna be looking at a sled all summer when you could be riding the bike do ya? If you're sticking to your guns on the deal, then yeah, you need to be very thorough in your inspection of the sled, ESPECIALLY if there have been many mods. to it. The sled will nickel and dime ya before you even get to ride it if it has been abused at all.
Track, belt, skis, wear rods, studs, hyfax, shocks, electrical stuff, etc... can all drain your wallet before the first ride. Then ya got all the motor stuff to consider. Make sure there has been good storage practices done to it after each season and before each season begins. As far as value goes, put both your bike and the sled into Kelley Blue Book or NADA to compare values. It's a tough call. Good Luck!
