    Question Track replacement

Does anyone have advice on how to change the track on my 02 Polaris xc800 with M-10. I bought it used and haven't been able to find a manual anywhere.
I'd like to do it myself to learn but if it's beyond my ability I don't want to screw it up. I'm pretty handy with tools. I'd appreciate any help, Thanks

Swapping tracks is fairly easy to do .
If you compress the skid before removing it makes it alot easier to get out. Use a strap to hold the skid compressed , loosen your track as much as possible, take out the 4 bolts that hold the skid in and pull it out.
You will have to remove the front drive axle. To do this you need to open up your chain case and pull the chain& gears(drain fluid 1st). After you have the that side opened up and gears off , you then unbolt the drive axle from the other side . Then you just move the axle to the chaincase side till the clutch side drops out of the tunnel and then pull it out of the chaincase side. Now your track will come out, just reverse order to install.
The hardest thing is pulling and lining things up with the skid, compressing the skid makes so much easier. I hold my sled up in the air from the rafters so you can also raise and lower the sled when needed to help from binding during pulling and re installing the skid.
This is also a good time to change hyfax if needed and check all your bearings too, much easier to work on the skid when its out of the sled.

Ditto, The front arm is what needs to be compressed the most then you try to pull it back and drop it under the cogs then it will pop right out. You can remove the rear axle on the skid and pop off the rear wheels if need be to get it out easier but sometimes the shaft won't come out easy which mean teh axle won't come out Definetly get the axle out and clean up the skid replacing all necessary bushings and such when its out as its a lot easier.

All sounds good. When you are taking out the driveshaft just be careful of the seal on the chaincase side. If you are too rough with the driveshaft you might rip that little seal. Just remember to take a look at it when you got her apart. Have fun!

Thanks everyone, I guess I'll have a go at it soon as I get the track here.
I do appreciate all the input. No such thing as TO MUCH info.

Another tip is to take something and prop the track up in the tunnel on the far side so it's easier to slide the skid in and out. Propping the track up helps keep the inside lugs from catching the skid and binding up .
Alot of the times working on a sled a wooden block is your friend
